Hey guys, today I am talking with Jenn Prentice. Jenn is a wife, boy mom and college professor who’s teaching people—and herself– to slow down, live intentionally and love Jesus, others and ourselves well. She’s sharing with us how to get to the root of our bad habits and handle them the right way. We’re not just changing our habits, we’re changing our heart.
Pray about it. God knows your heart. He knows what you want to accomplish. Ask Him for guidance and the right steps to change the heart of the situation.
Set realistic goals. We all have things we want to accomplish to become the version of ourselves we were created for. However, unrealistic goals will end in unwanted results. You know yourself, you know what you can take on. I believe in seasons of stretch, but I also believe that growth and stretch are obtainable through realistic goals. It didn’t take you one day to develop that habit; it’s not going to take one day to change it.
Put accountability in place. One of the best gifts God gave us is community. Find someone who you know is going to help you stay on track.
Realize change is more than just about willpower. Changing your habits is so much more than changing the habit. It’s changing the root of what’s triggering the reaction.
Don’t get derailed by setbacks. There are always going to be times where we reach setbacks. The key it to deal with it and keep going-don’t get stuck in the set back and derail.
